How to record laps with your iPhone & Harry's laptimer

With Harry's lap timer you can easily record lap data w/video. First download Harry's lap timer from the iTunes store (directions would be similar for Android devices but I don't have one so there's that) click the heading for more information!

I personally use the Grand Prix addition, available in the App store for 27.99 at the time of this writing.

Once you have the app installed, you need to add your vehicle to Harry's for in "administration" then "Vehicle List", "edit" "add new vehicle" Here you'll choose your car from a series of lists. In case you're not familiar the car is more than likely "Otto". If you're using a supported OBDII dongle for throttle & speed data you'll need to setup the gearing for the transmission. Most manufacturers have the gear ratios for any car readily available on the internet.

Once you're car is setup you need to "prepare race" and the first thing you need to do is "Define User" and then "Load track" you'll see a very large list of tracks available to you with pre established POI's. If your track is not listed, or you're doing an Open Road Rally (some already have a track set already created like the Silver State classic) you'll need to create a "new track" instead of "load track"

This works by defining the start/finish line by "setting" each with the app via GPS. In the event of a rally I would recommend setting this up prior to the start of the event or during practice sessions if available.

Once your track is loaded tap "drive" and you'll be greeted with the timer screen. This screen is best viewed horizontally. By default, video is disabled so tap the "video" button to bring up the camera selection. You have 4 options, no camera, iPhone camera, iPhone camera & external camera or external camera only. To use an external camera your phone will need to be connected to your camera wirelessly.

Once this is setup you'll be ready to race! Harry's will typically not start recording lap data until you're device is within range of the track and has sufficient GPS coverage.

That's it! After you're done driving you can export your laps from the app to your phone and then upload them to youtube and then post your lap information here at tracklaps.net
